Nutritionist reveals tricks for slimming down quickly; limit eating hours, don’t snack, eat light at night, among others

Losing weight remains to be a major challenge for many, but renowned Australian nutritionist Susie Burrell offers tips in effectively shedding pounds quickly.

According to Burrell, limiting the eating hours may help lose weight fast. The nutrition expert noted that breakfast should fall around 8:00 a.m. or 9:00 a.m., while the last meal of the day should fall around 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Limiting the eating hours may help induce an overnight fasting effect in the body, Burrell said.

The expert explained that stretching the meals in-between long periods of time spurs the body to store more fat than it should, and thus dampens the habit of only eating when hunger pangs set in.

“Limiting the number of hours we eat food each day has not only been shown to help optimise the hormones that control fat metabolism, but also supports a controlled calorie intake and supports weight loss…If you plan to consume a relatively large, filling meal at lunchtime, not only will you shift your calorie intake forward but you will find you are a lot more satisfied, are less likely to need any snacks, and can be satisfied at dinner,” Burrell told the Daily Mail online.

Burrell also added that meal planning plays a very important role in food intake and weight loss. According to the expert, it is important to keep in mind that the day’s biggest meal should not be consumed at the end of the day. This is because foods rich in calories eaten at dinner had higher likelihood of being stored in the body through out the night.

The nutritionist recommended eating a heavy breakfast or lunch and consuming a light dinner a few hours before bed time.

Cutting out snacks may also help boost weight loss, Burrell said. Eating snacks — such as biscuits to go with coffee as well as fruit and nuts — may add up about 300 to 400 calories throughout the day, she explained. Burrell suggested eating balanced meals that will keep the body full and functioning for three to four hours until the next meal.

Likewise, Burrell also suggested eliminating all liquid calories — such as coffee, milk, and red wine — during the weight loss process. The expert then recommended swapping these calorie-laden beverages with a lot of water and herbal tea.

However, the renowned nutritionist reminded that while many rules apply when it comes to weight loss, it is also essential to give the body a break once in a while to prevent unwanted binges. “The body does not compensate for liquid calories, which means we do not eat less when we have drunk them and they play havoc with our blood glucose levels. It will be much easier to build yourself a strong food platform that supports weight loss most of the time. And enjoying what life has to offer when you need to,” Burrell added.
